¡Español En Mi Boca!

English below!

Hola querido lector.

Y ahora...¿qué voy a comer?

Spanish In My Mouth!

Hello dear reader. I’m Katie and this is the first step in a new adventure for me - writing about food in Spanish! I’m glad you’re joining me and I hope we discover lots of interesting and delicious things together.

Being brief is not my forte, but Spanish isn’t my strong suit either so this could be a good combination!

I have two reasons for writing this blog:

Reason one: I want to improve my Spanish.

On 18th January I joined the “Fluent in 3 Months Challenge”. You can read more about the Challenge here but to summarise, it’s a challenge in which the participants work for three months to improve their skills in a foreign language. An important part of the challenge is pledging to work towards your goal for a certain number of minutes/hours every day. I have pledged to do 45 minutes a day, five times a week, and my objective is specifically to work on the past tenses and the subjunctive.

I’m going to use several methods to achieve my goal but two things in particular: the VR app that my husband (Dave) and I have created called Dynamic Spanish Trips, and this blog in which I’m going to share the recipes that I find and my experience cooking them.

Reason two: I am obsessed with food!

Eating new things and experimenting in the kitchen are my hobbies. I love learning about different cultures through their foods. I have travelled a lot and I used to write a blog with Dave about our travels. He likes writing in general and I do too, but I never felt as inspired as when I was writing articles about our culinary adventures. There are lots and if you’re interested you can read them here (in English).

Blimey! I suppose being brief is even difficult for me in Spanish!

Anyway, to summarise:
  • I’m going to write about some recipes in Spanish to practise the language
  • I will try to find typical recipes from Spanish-speaking countries
  • I will use the past tenses and the subjunctive as much as possible
  • I’m going to share the articles (corrected by my teacher) for whoever is interested
If anyone wants to recommend a dish, recipe or a cooking programme/channel to me, please do so in the comments - I’m always open to trying something new, especially something that has been recommended.

Thank you for reading. And now...what shall I eat?
